About the city

Dąbrowa Górnicza is a city in Zagłębie Dąbrowskie, southern Poland, near Katowice and Sosnowiec. It is located in the eastern part of the Silesian Voivodeship, on the Czarna Przemsza and Biała Przemsza rivers. 

Dąbrowa Górnicza is one of the cities of the 2.7 million conurbation - Katowice urban area, and lies within a Greater Silesian metropolitan area populated by about 5.2 million people. The population of the city itself is 127,500 (Dec 2010). Historically, the city has always been connected to heavy industry – mining and metallurgy. 

Despite its industrial heritage in Dąbrowa, there are many green areas. The total area of local lakes is over 800 hectares, there are 180 hectares of parks (0.96%) and 4,100 hectares of forests (21.7%). Particularly noteworthy is the complex of Pogoria (lakes). Also, the largest Polish desert, Błędów Desert, lies within city limits. Furthermore, part of the Eagles' Nests Landscape Park reaches the outskirts of the city. Among cultural institutions there are the Palace of Zagłębie Culture, City Museum Sztygarka, Ząbkowice House of Culture, Zagłębie Music Scene, Chamber Orchestra of Zagłębie, Film Center Helios.

About the city

Galati is the capital city of Galati County, in the historical region of Moldavia, eastern Romania. Galati is the largest port town on the Danube River. In 2011, the Romanian census recorded 249,432 residents, making it the 8th most populous city in Romania. Galati is a major economic centre based around the Port of Galati, naval shipyard Damen, the ArcelorMittal Galati steel plant and mineral exports.

Galati lies in the southern part of the Moldova plateau on the left (east) bank of the Danube river at the junction of the Siret River (west) and the Prut River (east), near Lake Brates. It is 80 kilometers (50 mi) from the Black Sea. Apart than parks, museums, Observer, the most attractive part of the city is the Danube river and its walk side known as “Faleza Dunarii”. 

Galati has the largest iron and steel plant in Romania, the ArcelorMittal Galati, which was state-owned until 2001. It is still commonly referred to as "Sidex", its old name. Romania's largest shipyard -Damen is located in Galati. It benefits from easy access to the Black Sea and from its co-location with the ArcelorMittal Galati Plant.

The Danube’s water front
